Joel Henckel is senior vice president, Business Development, Emerging Verticals and Acceptance, U.S. at Mastercard. In this role, he is responsible for maintaining and growing strong relationships with the acquiring and merchant communities. He leads the business development and operations teams who manage relationships with key acquirers and ISOs. Additionally, he leads a team to expand Mastercard acceptance within key emerging industries, and sits on various internal and external acquirer and merchant committees.

Prior to joining Mastercard, Mr. Henckel served as SVP/general manager at Bank of America Merchant Services (BAMS), where he was responsible for sales and portfolio management for the Commercial and Business Banking segments. His responsibilities included all aspects of new client acquisition, client management, and the Bank of America partnership. Before BAMS, Mr. Henckel had similar management positions at other First Data (Fiserv) alliances both in the United States and Latin America. Previously, he held senior positions with Discover Card, including responsibility for Discover’s Cash Advance and ATM network and the Emerging Markets sales teams. Mr. Henckel has been in the electronic payments industry since 1988.

Mr. Henckel serves on both the ATPC and Electronic Transaction Association (ETA) Board of Directors, representing Mastercard.

He earned a Masters of Business Administration in Information Systems from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, Georgia.
